It's Sherry Week in Berkeley! Celebrating the 10th annual International Sherry Week, hosting JJ Clifton of Avanelle Wine Co. to taste 5 incredible sherries and learn about the world of this unique elixir.
We love sherry! And we're definitely *not* talking about the sherry you cook with or the sickly sweet version hidden away in the depths of your Grandparent's kitchen cabinet! What we are celebrating is the full spectrum of sherry, based primarily on the Palomino grape grown in Andalusia. From the bone dry, salty & mineral worlds of Fino and Manzanilla, to more textured Amontillado and onto the richer, rounder Oloroso and a late harvest Moscatel—we'll taste through a variety of styles, discuss the different ways in which each are made and geek out about the solera system, fortification, why flor is so important.
And as sherry is best enjoyed with food, our friends at Fava will be serving three bites to go along with the tasting as well—food inspired by Spain but based on delicious California ingredients and produce (think fried anchovies, persimmon, manchego & more)!
