Piedmont's Podere Ruggeri Corsini @ Vine Street Thursday, March 13th

Behold! The new age of Piedmont! Most estates in this region date back generations and generations, with winemaker children born into a wealth of grapevines and knowledge, but Podere Ruggeri Corsini is a serious tale of raw talent and passion. They span the line between traditionalists (it is Piedmont, after all!) and modernists (bringing their fresh perspectives on the vines and winemaking!) with the result being classic for the region with remarkable drinkability.

Nicola and Loredana met studying enology and viticulture and fell in love. While Nicola was consulting for producers in the Langhe, he stumbled on the hamlet of Corsini, tucked away in a valley just north of Monforte d'Alba (a couple of houses and farm buildings surrounded by vines). They scraped together their liras (so-to-speak) and purchased the winery in 1995.

Nicola still consults around Langhe (a little competitive market research if you will), but mostly brings all of his knowledge to his own winemaking, with Loredana tending to the vines. And in the classic old-world style, their two daughters Vittoria and Francesca have become involved in recent years, marking the rise of the second-generation at Podere Ruggeri Corsini.
