If Portugal were France, Luis Seabra's name would be known by every wine nerd, his wines would be doled out in micro-allocations, and people would be offering me Warriors tickets for the rights to buy a few bottles. But -- Portugal remains the Last Great Unknown in European wine, and his visionary approach to the Douro remains affordable for us plebes. His ‘Xisto’ is composed of the usual kitchen sink of Portuguese red varieties -- and has the peppery, dark fruit, smoked meats, and wet earth flavors we expect (think Northern Rhone meets Iberia) -- but there's an elegance and vibrant acidity here that make this truly special. Get in on it before the world figures it all out!
