In 1923, a Spanish doctor had a dream. Dr. Vincente Alvarez believed that the high-altitude “foothills” (2000 feet up!) of the Sierra de Gredos mountains were impeccably suited for Grenache: hot days and cool nights made for a long growing season, allowing the grapes to become complex and expressive/ His dream was cut short by the Spanish Civil War, but restored by his grandchildren, who are now making some of the most serious wine in Spain for the price. Herbal-tinged and full of racy red fruit and spice notes, this is the wine the Doctor dreamt of.
