Pierre Gonon is kind of considered the big daddy of Saint-Joseph. But with his Saint Joseph going for $$, we were ecstatic to get a hold of wine made from his young-vine Syrah in St. Joseph and older vines in the Ardeche. This has all the character and charm of his Saint Jospeh but in a juicier frame. But don’t get it twisted--this wine ain’t no softy. It has that smoked rock meets vibrant plum, blackberries and violets that makes Northern Rhone Syrah so damn appealing. Warning: this wine is dangerously good with lamb and steak.
