The name “Principiano” appears on the Serralunga di Alba land register all the way back to 1700. Historically it was a farm -- they grew everything on it -- but in 1993 Ferdinando Principiano began focusing exclusively on their vineyards, and they quickly gained notice for making wines naturally in a place where many, well, weren’t. This comes from organically farmed, 30+-year-old vines, high up in the Serralungan hills (1000 feet above sea level), and it’s just freakishly good for the price. Tar, roses, leather, pine resin, and a hint of mint. (DECANT ME, PLEASE!)
