Sure, this bottle is a splurge. But this stunning release from 300 meters above the village of Barolo, from a tiny 0.7 hectare plot within the iconic Cannubi vineyard, made by the latest generation of one of Barolo's most legendary winemaking families? That's more than worth the indulgence. Cannubi is the most historic cru in Barolo (the oldest bottle of Barolo is “1752 Cannubi”) and has long been considered the region’s Grand Cru. And Chiara Boschis is among the best winemakers working with that storied fruit. Her 'Cannubi' is flat-out gorgeous, building in complexity from start to finish. Mint, violets, crushed raspberry and blackberry are pronounced on the palate, with a nuanced finish full of sweet spice and smoke. Precise, beautifully textured, and as close to perfect as you can get.
