Dirk Niepoort knows how to do Port. No surprise since his Niepoort family has been making exceptional ports since they moved from Holland to the Douro region of Portugal in 1842. Grapes are hand harvested from vines averaging 30 years and then the wine is aged in barrel for three and a half years. Brick red/tawny in color, with delicate nutty aromas and a hint of dried fruits. Balanced and luscious with a long lively finish. A no-brainer pairing for desserts, but this can also be served slightly chilled as an aperitif or with pâtés or foie gras if you are feeling fancy!
