Nuo: the Sardinian word for ‘naked’ or 'nude.' And while there’s no question that this is a wine that's suitable for both bearskin rugs and getting sand up all the wrong crevasses, it's actually 4th generation winemaker winemaker Sergio Loi's way of telling you that -- from the early 1900's on -- his family's been making "naked" wine (i.e., no chemical farming and minimum intervention in the cellar). Hailing from the island’s sparsely populated southeast coast, it tastes like it: think sea salt, sage, rosemary, and a foundation of chalky stone fruits. (Amazing with pasta alla bottarga or anything pulled up from the sea, it's also lovely with vegetables and/or standing around without your underwear on.)
