Americans often forget that Piedmont, known for its exquisite Nebbiolo-based reds, also makes one of the world’s greatest whites: Arneis, from the Roero DOCG. One of the indisputable legends of the region, the Negro family has been growing Arneis since -- wait for it -- 1670! Unlike other old-schoolers, though, they’re not hidebound by tradition, and decided to experiment a bit: they made a natural, unfiltered version that’s richer and funkier and - can we just say it? - even funner than their ordinary version. Sourced from three organic vineyards, this has hints of yellow peach & pear, and is a meal unto itself. Utterly yum.
