Mac Forbes is to Australia what the cistercian monks were to Burgundy and Alessandro Masnaghetti was to Barolo: which is to say he has played an imperative roll in mapping the terroir of the region-- especially in Yarra Valley, an area that is extremely diverse in soil types and microclimates. In doing this intimate work with the land, he also found that careful (in his case regenerative) farming is key to preserving the diversity that lends to healthy and lasting ecosystems. All the cool technical stuff out of the way... this wine HITS; fuji apple, lemon custard, creamy but bright with a touch of salty lime on the finish.
