The most fascinating wine region for me right now has to be Sicily, and more specifically Mount Etna. The new guard has arrived, and they’re harvesting the incredible native varietals from their unique volcanic soils, producing wines unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. The Biondis have been at it for a while - almost 400 years - and here they’ve created a white wine primarily from Carricante that’s as nuanced and elusive as a great Burgundy. A chameleon in the glass, with mineral-driven peachy flavors evolving into dried flowers and spice. As delicious as it is mysterious.
