Somló (Shoam-low), once an undersea volcano, is Hungary’s smallest appellation... put it's always punched way above its size class! Winemaking here dates back to the Romans, and the wines were later prized by kings and queens all over Europe (not least because drinking it before copulation was said to ensure a male heir!). There's a single undisputed master in the region, and Fekete Béla is it. This wine (his "FKT') marks a slight departure from the classic style: even fresher, even more mineral, even *more* vibrant than usual. Bright, flinty, and explosive: like a salty margarita the saline citrus snap is so zippy-zapped. The finish is long, and the whole is freakishly complex for the $.
