This week, we’re taking a rare and incredibly deep dive into Vigneti Massa, the estate that single-handedly revived Timorasso, Piedmont’s once-forgotten grape, and continues to push the boundaries of terroir-driven winemaking. Mark Middlebrook of Portovino, a Massa virtuoso will be behind the bar guiding you through these incredible wines.
We’ll begin with the fresh and inviting 2023 ‘Terra: Piccolo Derthona’, a vibrant introduction to Timorasso, before stepping into the layered complexity of the 2021 ‘Derthona’ and the 2020 ‘Sterpi’ Cru, a powerhouse expression from some of Massa’s finest vineyards. But what truly sets this tasting apart is the opportunity to experience two perfectly aged gems—the 2013 ‘Pertichetta’ Croatina, a chance to see this bold, structured red at its peak, and the 2015 ‘Monleale’ Barbera (if you happened to be at our Cellar Raid at Solano Cellars a few weeks ago this wine was the star of the night!), showcasing how Massa’s meticulous craftsmanship gives Barbera the depth and longevity of world-class wines. If you love age-worthy, boundary-pushing Piedmontese wines, this is a lineup you won’t want to miss!
