We love Sicily! Seriously. Not only as an insanely beautiful island of our dreams, but also as a place of world class wines. The island has gone through much change socially, politically, and economically, and it is beautiful to see the new generation of winemakers on the island pushing for wines of incredible terroir, based on organic farming.
It is hard not to think of terroir when the wines of Mount Etna are involved! With vines planted on ancient lava flows called ‘sciare', these are wines that transport us half a world away. We're 100% obsessed with volcanic terroir and its effects on wines (and check our recent volcanic documentary love too)!
But Sicily is not just Mount Etna! We also love the wines from the western side of the island, especially the high elevation wines of Centopassi! Centopassi works organically on land seized from the Mafia and transforms it into miraculous, organic Sicilian juice.
