Vintage Berkeley alum Maria Castelli is back at Vine street, and she'll be pouring a lineup of amazing Italian wines featuring the soulful Chianti's of Terreno!

Named in 2024 amongst an impressive roster of “Wine Heiresses Apparent” by Eric Asimov of the NY Times, Sofia Ruhne makes flat out incredible wines at her family's Tuscany based Terreno estate. She has made farming the focus at Terreno, leading the transition from conventional to organic viticulture and started working to raise the quality and lower the alcohol level of her Terreno wines. One of her excellent innovations in the vineyard has been to assign each of her employees their own section of vines to tend to, this way they each become intimately familiar with their vines, how they respond to pruning and the unique pressures of their microclimates. The care she’s put into running Terreno has paid off--the wines have developed from something simple to something world-class and her Chianti Classico's are a perfect encapsulation of her efforts.
On Friday we'll be tasting four beautiful Chianti Classico's from Terreno--from their shop favorite 'Le Tre Vigne' bottling, to a 2019 Riserva and two insanely special Gran Selezione bottlings we're so excited to pour. Plus we'll be sampling champagne out of magnum to start the tasting too! Come learn all about Chianti Classico, the new vineyard designation system in the region and why the Terreno wines are so special!
