Get acquainted with Oregon Gamay and other delicious bottlings from Division Wine Co. this Friday evening at Vine. We’re thrilled to host Kate Norris, owner and winemaker at Division, back to Vine street to taste through the new vintage of wines she makes with her husband Thomas Monoroe in Portland.
Kate & Thomas make wines that define the new wave of Oregon and have been doing so for over 10 years. After curing their teeth at an iconic string of wineries in France: from the Loire, to Beaujolais, Burgundy and the Northern Rhone, the couple returned to Portland and founded a shared winery space called Southeast Wine Collective. Here, they got their start making wine under their Division Wines label and invited 10 friends and peers in the local wine scene to join them. This tiny collective hosted lovely tastings out of their shared tasting room and put Portland on the map as a serious wine town, turning out delicious, old world-inspired wines. Though she worked all across France, Kate has a particular affinity for the wines of the Loire and has been a major player in Oregon’s recent “Loiragonian” movement.
The collective had a long and fruitful run and Kate & Thomas recently moved their production to a shiny new winery space in SE Portland where they have even more space to experiment and grow. The wines the couple makes are French inspired with an undeniable Pacific Northwest flare. Their take on Gamay is especially enticing: well balanced, lower in alcohol, untampered with in the cellar and made from organic and biodynamically grown grapes.
Come hang with winemaker/owner Kate Norris at Vintage Berkeley on Vine Street and taste through a line-up of our favorite Division wines--from Gamay and Pinot Noir to rosé, Chardonnay and more!
