Czechia & Slovakia (w/ Black Lamb) @ College Ave. Thursday, March 13th

The peaceful breakup of Czechoslovakia in 1993, often called the Velvet Divorce, created two independent nations: Czechia and Slovakia. While they share a deep-rooted winemaking history dating back to the Roman era, their wine industries have taken distinct paths since separation.

In Czechia, Moravia has emerged as the dominant wine region, producing vibrant Rieslings, Grüner Veltliners, and skin-contact whites, with a strong natural wine movement gaining momentum. Meanwhile, Slovakia’s volcanic soils and unique microclimates have allowed for the rise of expressive, mineral-driven whites and complex reds with producers embracing both traditional and experimental techniques.

Today, both countries are experiencing a winemaking renaissance, with small, passionate producers like Pivnica Čajkov and Jaroslav Osička putting their unique terroirs on the map, making wines that are as exciting as their histories. These producers are redefining Central European winemaking with their low-intervention, character-packed wines. On Thursday, we'll have Black Lamb Imports in the house to explore skin-contact whites to elegant, earthy reds from both!
