We love Sicily! Seriously. Not only as an insanely beautiful island of our dreams, but also as a place of world class wines. It is beautiful to see winemakers on the island pushing for wines of incredible terroir, based on heritage grape varietals and a focus on organic farming. For the legends of winemaking on the island (and in Italy in general!), for us it's all about the incredible COS winery.
COS is a joint venture in Vittoria founded in 1980 by three friends, Giambattista Cilia, Giusto Occhipinti, and Cirino Strano. The initials of their last names form the winery’s name. They were the first organically and biodynamically farmed winery on the island, and are a leader in championing the potential of Sicily’s terroir—especially its ability to produce complex, pure, and fresh wines, despite its location at the very southern tip of Italy.
From their ethereal, delicious Frappatto, to the earthy Cerasuolo di Vittoria, and their lip smacking Pithos Bianco, these are delicious wines that transport up to Vittoria—and seem to always find a spot on our dinner table. Our friend Arnie Plowe of Beaune Imports will be here on Friday to pour five COS wines, and he'll also be serving up delicious anchovies to pair alongside fresh bread and COS Olive Oil!
