Wine pros know: one of the greatest single values in all of wine? The sparkling wines of Spain's Catalonia region known as Cava. Made in the same laborious, complexity-yielding method as Champagne... but coming in at a mere fraction of the price!
We know: you had a crappy one once, when you were in college or something. Guess what? That wine had as much to do with Cava's heights as Charles Shaw does with the best of Californian winemaking.
This Sunday we taste a lineup of Cavas from one of our favorite producers: Jané Ventura. Founded almost 100 years ago by Josep Jané, who created one of the region’s best small producers of Cava. Today Josep’s great-grandson Gerard leads the team, and while they've been certified organic since 2010, they've been practicing organic for much longer. As drinkable as it is dry (very!), this is what we drink when we want a mineral-inflected, Champagne-serious sparkler... but want some money left over for dinner!

One of the coolest art exhibits we've had the good fortune of hosting in all our years — J. Braman's "Threshold: When the Wild Wears You" show — was also the longest-running!
The opening party was slated to occur over two years ago, on March 28th, 2020. For all-too-obvious reasons, that opening sadly never took place. But this Sunday? We're partying like it's 2019... and hosting its opening and closing party, all in one!
J.Braman's an East Bay-based artist and educator; she's currently full-time faculty at Berkeley City College in Studio Art and Art History. Her work's been shown at the De Young Museum, Sonoma Museum of Visual Arts, Berkeley Art Center, Richmond Art Center, and more... including Vintage Berkeley!
The show lasts from 3-5 PM; come check out the art, join us for the Cava tasting, and then join for the artist talk at 4 PM!
