One of our biggest points of pride? Finding compelling wine and great value from all corners of the world. And our current (and probably forever) fixation for spellbinding wines that over-deliver at their price point? Central Europe, and specifically, the fascinating, yet somehow wholly familiar wines from Slovenia and Croatia.

If you've been with us for a while, our affection for this oft-overlooked part of the world will come as no surprise (and you've likely been to at least one of our many events with our friend Eric Danch covering wines from these same regions). If you haven't yet dipped your toes in the (crystal clear, vibrant blue) waters of the Balkan peninsula, you've been missing out. With varied terrain ranging from rugged and mountainous, to serene, coastal plains, and a range of incredibly diverse microclimates, Slovenian and Croatian wine represents a wide spectrum of wine that appeals to just about every palate.

This Thursday, we're thrilled to welcome the founders of Vinum imports to Solano Cellars for a full Balkan takeover of the bar. Marko and Ilya have been championing wines from this part of the world since 2003, highlighting small, multi-generational farmers across both countries (Marko has since moved back to Slovenia, where he now makes wine under his own label!). We'll have 10 wines open and available to taste - bubbles, from pet nat to Champagne method; crispy, sea-sprayed whites and their more savory, skin-macerated counterparts; your new favorite chillable chugger for the onset of summer, and dark, chewy, lush reds for the last of the season's chilly evenings. Build your own flight of 5, or taste all 10!
